EMARE

EMARE [European Media Artists in Residence Exchange], was established in 1994 and offers individual artists residencies to experiment and develop their own practice within a new international context.

Within this programme the selected artists received travel and accommodation, studio provision and technical assistance. In 2006 VIVID was invited to join as the UK partner, working with the media lab Werkleitz Gesellschaft in Germany, and IMPAKT in Utrecht, Netherlands. The selection process was completed in summer 2006 and VIVID will host its first resident, Tobias Sternberg in spring 2007.

Sternberg made a series of short investigatory films into the role of the camera,

 

"By examining camera movements the camera becomes the main protagonist of the films.

Ridding the frame of the distractions of actors the films would naturally be interpreted as first person narratives, but they do not carry any story or lead to any conclusions. They should rather be seen as visual essays in artificial movement."
